About the Design
This is the clients first age care facility. It consists of 3 buildings. (technically it is 2, one is the community center and the other is the residential building with various wings) Building C & D also known as the ILU (independent living units), and then the RCF (residential care facility) being the second building. Meli studio was hired to design the interior concept, name and logo of the facility.
This project has gone back to the drawing board a few times and started prior to my time at Meli Studio. In my last few weeks i focused on redesigning the floor plan for the the ground floor of the RCF building with Boffa Robbinson Group. The main focus on the re-design was the cafe size, shape and location. It was decided by the real estate agent that people in the ILU's would not want to socialise with the RCF residence and decided that a dividing wall would be best. In the end i designed a tulip shape, with the cafe sitting in the top of the tulip and the stem would be the dividing wall with banquette seating of both sides of the wall. A privacy screen was also used in the middle of the cafe to divide the space, while allowing the cafe to be staffed by one person on most days. I designed the overall layout and joinery, with UFD to complete the equipment selection & layout. UFD had not yet completed this prior to my leaving Meli Studio. I was unable to get a copy of the finished cafe joinery or the fireplace joinery i added into the ground floor. I also completed designing the WC's, bedrooms, and the Hairdresser / Salon for the RCF building.
