This project required a redesign of a narrow terrace house which reorganises each level of the house into different, functional zones for a young couple. This design includes an extension of the basement and balconies overlooking the backyard on all levels. A forth level was built to the maximum allowable height increasing the overall square meters for the house. All four levels are connected by a staircase with individual detailing for each level.

House Walk-through
Street level – Open Study and Living Room: The entrance to the terrace at ground level is the second level. A small joinery area backs onto the void which allows natural light to filter down into the basement. On the other side of the void is an open study area that flows into a large joinery unit consisting of shelves, banquet seating and an entertainment unit in the living room.
Basement – Kitchen and Dining: The basement, reveals a casual seating area on the left and the kitchen on the right. The open plan kitchen and dining flows out onto the back deck and courtyard. The garage is also accessed through this level. Having the kitchen located on this level means the couple don’t need to carry all the groceries up flights of stairs. With the addition of a small casual seating area and a W/C this level is the perfect entertaining space for a young couple.
Level 1 – Master Bedroom: Walking up the stairs from street level you enter the private living quarters. The entire level is dedicated to master bedroom. On the left is a large narrow walk through robe connected to the master bathroom. On the right is timber feature wall with a small frosted glass panel to allow natural light to filter into the staircase. Walking around the feature wall brings you to the bedroom space. A feature wall acts as a large bedhead with built in bedsides in matching recycled timber
Loft – Guest Room: The forth level holds the guest room which has a built-in robe with a simple but elegant bed and bedsides. The guest bathroom has an opening skylight which not only allows natural light into the room, but also allows for ventilation. The skylight also opens to let the heat out aiding in temperature control.
