Melanie Hopkins

Interior Designer

"Interior design is a very personal thing, you either connect with a space or you don't. As a interior designer, I aim to ensure that you end up with a space that you love, and that works for your everyday life. Whether it is a retail store, cafe, apartment or terrace house. I will work with you from concept to completion in order to give you the best outcome."

About Me

2016

Throughout my life, I have always been interested by all things creative. I began working in hospitality at 15 and gained a Certificate IV in Hospitality. As time progressed, I found this industry was not creative enough for me. This is when I moved into the world of fashion and became a Visual Merchandiser. I worked for large national and international companies including Esprit, Glassons, Cotton On, Valleygirl and Temt. I completed a Certificate IV in Visual Arts (Visual Merchandising) from Tafe and worked my way to a national role in only 6 years.

After 10 years in the retail industry  I found a passion for designing. My role as a National Visual Merchandiser included designing fixtures, creating floor plans and working with multiple departments to ensure everyone's vision came together into one cohesive design. I realized that my main passion was in interior design, so I changed careers. After 15 years working in commercial fields I decided to focus my degree in residential design to balance out my knowledge and expertise.

My achievements so far include being a finalist in the International Green Interior Awards for my small commercial office design in the student division.

My Design Philosophy

In commercial design it is important to design for not just the brand, but for the customer. It is important to create a space that is inviting and makes you want to stay, and come back. Residential design to me is all about personalizing a space to make it feel like a home. It should reflect the people that live there, have a personality of its own. A good design will make you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door, and let other people know who you are when they visit your home.

Interior designs in both commercial and residential should be planned to maximize space and increase productivity of each area. As a interior designer, I aim to ensure that you end up with a space that you love, and that works for your everyday life.
