Competition Concept Statement
I have added value to the space by changing the interior and creating flow to the building. The ground floor has bee dedicated to bedrooms and bathrooms, while the upstairs has been left for shared spaces. I have increased the amount of students from 8 to 16, two in each room. I have also created bathroom pods, giving 5 separate showers, and W/C for easy access for the students. There is also a bath for anyone that wants to use it. There is a very large laundry with lots of storage servicing all of the occupants. Upstairs has a large kitchen with a butlers pantry, a high seating area, a low dining table, living room, study and a balcony all in a open plan. The variety of seating gives the students a option on how they can study and play.
The 5th room has been designed in the style of a traditional Tea House. There is a joinery unit with a kitchenette so they can make tea, or coffee. The large storage allows them to store items such as gym or yoga equipment. The TV on the wall gives them the option to watch movies or exercise videos. There are a few large cushions that can be placed around the room adding some comfort and flexibility to seating. I have also created a chilled outdoor space inspired by the traditional Tea Gardens with stepping stones, hedges and greenery.
I believe that I have maximised the property to allow for the best living conditions for the students.
